Appearance[]
Starlight is a glowing palomino mare with a rich gold coat and fluffy white hair. She has four white stockings, and a black muzzle. In "Bella Silver", she appears to have a white blaze as well, but it is not apparent in later series. From "Starlights" onward, she wears a decorative headpiece made of sparkling gems.
Personality[]
Starlight believes firmly in her dreams and does everything in her power to make them come true. A positive and determined attitude pushes her forwards! As the founder of Herd Starlight, it can be inferred that she is deeply curious of the world around her and loves to explore and discover new things, hence her herd's motto: "Ask, explore, discover".
Magical Gift[]
Starlight shines like the stars and can even walk among them thanks to her windwalking abilities. When her herd went into hiding, she used her magic to hide them in the stars for a thousand years.[1]
History[]
Starlight was one of the 10 first-born foals of Herd Bellasara. Sara asked the young Starlight if she would like to become a leader of her own herd; when Starlight agreed, she was immediately aged into an adult and gifted the wisdom and maturity to be a great leader. Sara helped her find a mate, and with Sara's blessing, Starlight and her new mate traveled to the Daybreak Mountains and established Herd Starlight.[2]
The Starstone.
When Sigga and the The Valkyries formed, Sara gave Starlight the magical Starstone that allowed her to communicate with Sigga and other herd founders across North of North. However, when Sigga was banished from North of North, Feral and the Wolf Riders attacked Rolandsgaard Castle. Sigga's pendant that she used to communicate with the other pendants disappeared along with Feral, causing Starlight and her sisters to worry for their herds' safety.[3] The three sisters agreed that they would take their herds into hiding and wait for the Valkyrie to return and protect their herds once again.[4]
A thousand years later, Emma Roland arrives in North of North, and with the help of the Starkeeper, Cassiopeia, uses the Starstone to call Herd Starlight back home.
Relationships[]
Bella and the Herd Founders[]
Starlight was a filly in Bella's original herd before she was blessed by Sara alongside Islandar, Airistos, Valeryk, Shahazar, Sunflower, Moonfairy, Pantheon, Elemyn, and Mustang.[5]
Sunflower and Moonfairy[]
Starlight has two sisters, Sunflower and Moonfairy, who both founded their own herds as well. When Sigga was banished, the three sisters agreed to take their herds into hiding and wait for a new Valkyrie to protect them from the Wolf Riders.
Daybreak[]
Daybreak is Starlight's husband.[6] Together, they were blessed by Sara, established Herd Starlight, and had numerous progeny.[5]
Cassiopeia and The Starkeepers[]
The Starkeepers are the close human friends of Herd Starlight. Cassiopeia is a Starkeeper entrusted with the Star Map which allows her to see all stars regardless of location or time. She uses this to help Emma Roland find Starlight and her herd among the stars.[7]
Sigga Rolanddotter and Emma Roland[]
Emma Roland welcomes Starlight home and returns the Starstone to her.
Many years ago, Sigga was the leader of The Valkyries and protected the herds of North of North, but when she was banished, Starlight and her sister's no longer felt safe and went into hiding awaiting the next Valkyrie.[3] After a thousand years, Sigga's descendant, Emma Roland, arrived in North of North and traversed the land, reuniting the lost herds. With the help of Cassiopeia, Emma makes it to Dawnstar Castle and uses the Starstone to summon Starlight and her herd home.[7][1]
Starstone Otter[]
Sara gave Starlight the magical Starstone so she could communicate with Sigga and the other herd founders across the land. [3] When Herd Starlight went into hiding, the magical pendant found its way into the paws of a normal otter, transforming it into a wise and respectable being known as the Starstone Otter.[8] For many years she guarded the stone from Ivenna before giving it to Emma Roland so she could summon Herd Starlight back home.[1]
