"How the Chibis Got Their Magic"[]

"Three Tassel Mice climbed the pink-barked Chibolee tree on the shores of Teardrop Lake beneath Drasilmare’s enormous branches. They placed small bottles on the pink tree’s branches next to its bark. A light pink sap dripped into each bottle filling them almost completely top. Each Tassel Mouse also carried a very small cork with which they then sealed the bottles. [3]

About half way around the lake the Tassel Mice paused and started chittering excitedly to each other. They had felt her before they saw her, the milk white horse with a golden star on her chest. She had moved so silently that the Tassel Mice did not hear her until she made a soft sound as she let out her breath. The Tassel Mice jumped with excitement to see The White Lady! She was a friend to all of the Tassel Mice in North of North. [4]

The Lady looked at them curiously as they stood with their bottles, and then one mouse pulled his from the lake and brought it forward. He set it down and took out the cork. The white horse nickered and it almost sounded like she was laughing. The light of the moons seemed to play on her coat in a rainbow-like pattern, and suddenly all of the rainbow-light seemed to run toward the star on her chest and burst out toward the bottle. The light surrounded the bottle and the pink sap inside glowed for a brief moment. Each tassel mouse brought its bottle forward and the light hit each one in the same way.

The Tassel Mice then re-corked the bottles, bowed to the White Lady and resumed herding their bottles around the lake. Mireldis watched the Tassel Mice for a while as they scampered along the lake and then she turned and walked toward Drasilmare, the many colored lights of the moons trailing after her. [5]

From her shop in Bagatella Row, Philenia True peaked out onto the cobbled streets of the Canter Hollow shopping district. The rain had been coming down hard all week and water rushed down the street on its way to the fountain in the middle of Canter Hollow. Philenia was an artist. She created toys which she called Chibis. Small versions of horses, Magical Friends, and even people made out of the rubbery pink sap of the Chibolee trees that grew on the shores of Teardrop Lake above Canter Hollow. Her three Tassel Mice, Jora, Trippy and Neek, would collect the sap in glass bottles and bring it down to the shop. A little Chibolee sap went a long way when Philenia combined it with the berries and flowers that gave the Chibis their colors. Each one was as big as a stuffed toy, but smooth and rubbery." [6]
